Hi everyone, I’m Sam. Mum and nanny to three little cherubs. I always wanted to be a fishergirl when I grew up and that’s what my job is! I truly believe I am doing what I was put on this earth to do. 2 Bent Rods turned 20yrs old (December 2024). I am very proud of this achievement and that we have had over 100,000 people, predominately children (5-12yrs) through the different fishing programs. Since 2017, we have won nearly 25 awards, local, state and national. These awards have been across multiple industries as well as business awards. I am one of a dozen women chosen by Queensland Fisheries as leader and mentor in the Women in Recreational Fishing Network Qld. This is a program run by the department. My role is to introduce ladies or get them back into fishing. I am on one of the advisory boards for Fisheries Research Development Corporation. Once a month you’ll hear me doing a quick interview on 101.5fm about what’s been happening with the women’s programs as well as what is coming up in the area. I wrote and self published a children’ book called Lilly & the Tilly. It’s about noxious fish tilapia and aims to educate the kids on what to do if they catch one and to show them the detrimental effects they have on our native species, biodiversity and environment. I founded a not for profit – Enviro Fish Inc. Our mission is to create inclusive and accessible fishing experiences that educate and encourage others in the community to help create a better environment for all. I aim to bring all levels of government, industry, community and other stakeholders together for the betterment of our environment. Along with another business friend, we have started a Coffee Catchup once a month. This is for business owners to come along, have an informal chat. You might want to throw a problem to the group or have a vent. It is a very safe place where we get to unwind. I love to spend time with family and friends. If there is a pool table around, that’s where you will find me. I also like to play darts and cards. I like knitting and when I get the spare time in winter, I sometimes knit beanies for premature babies.
