Hi, I’m Sheree.
Being able to share someone else’s story is a big part of why I became a writer.

I was told from a young age that I had a lot to say and I was affectionately known as the chatterbox of the family. As I got older and started dabbling in short stories and poetry, my Poppy said I would be the one who could write the words to go on his gravestone one day. Thankfully he’s still with us, but it certainly sparked a few ideas and I decided maybe I could explore the path of writing.

The biggest challenge was choosing the right field of writing. I found myself studying journalism which eventually led to my first “real” job working for the Caboolture News/Bribie Weekly and Island & Mainland News. It was a mixed role but one I am grateful for as I met so many lovely people and told so many amazing stories. It also helped set me up where I am today.

I’m mum to two very strong and independent young ladies. That’s pretty much code for sassy, but I know they’ll go far in this world. Being able to divert my writing to a freelance role has meant I can spend time with them as well and let them drive me up the wall. That’s parenting for you.

So here I am now. I write for two papers based in the Moreton Bay Region – The Local Times (formerly Feature Magazine) and The Local News. I also do online blogging and editing work. But if I have to pick a favourite style of writing, I always come back to feature writing. It’s an avenue where you get to take the time to really get to know someone and get to the heart of their story.
